If you are looking for a new job, or if you are looking for a way to grow in your current job, then list building is important. Building a free email list is a form of lead generation and is used as part of a direct mail marketing program. So how does that help you? Easy! You figure out how to build a list that your company or a company that you would like to work at would love to own. It’s that simple: Your stock goes up when you have skills that build sales leads.
How do you go about learning these skills? It’s not that difficult. If you start by building a website and adding a newsletter, it will be slow and difficult. But, if you begin to look around at who already has an email list that your target company would like to have, things start to get easier. The strategy is to interact with organizations that already have the email list you would like. You need to figure out who these organizations are then find a way to interact with them in such a way that you gain access to their email list. Does that sound ridiculous?
A Free Email List
If you have the right offer, it isn’t very difficult to gain access to organizations’ email lists. So you have to figure out how to approach the right organizations with the right offers. For example, let’s say you are an employee at a local car dealership and you want to build a list of thousands of local car owners, figuring, they will all need a new car eventually. As you are food shopping on Saturday morning you swing by the local farmer’s market to pick up some vegetables and just happen to notice they have a sign-up sheet on one of the vendor’s tables. It’s a sign-up for notifications about upcoming farmer’s market events. And there it is: the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
So the farmers’ market has a list, how can you get fair and open access to that list? What do you have to offer them in order to get access to their list? What if you got the car dealership where you work to offer a discount oil change (oil change done at cost) for those who sign up for the dealership’s email list, and the dealership will also donate $5 to the farmer’s market organization for everyone who signs up. Think about it, the farmer’s market wins, the members on the farmer’s market email list win and the car dealership wins (as long as they are willing to buy an email list at $5 per qualified registrant. That’s what it costs the dealership in the end, five dollars to get each name added to their list.
You take that offer to the farmers’ market manager and see if you can’t get access to their list. If the farmers’ market manager is interested in attracting the people on his or her list to come to the market then the offer should be written to offer those people who read the email and mention it at the market will also get a $1 discount on their first purchase, or some such discount. But the offer doesn’t need to be used when the farmers’ market is in action. The offer is just as useful during the winter when the market is closed. The idea is the farmers’ market can offer value to their list members.
There are many more local lists than just farmers’ markets. There are service organizations, clubs, sports teams and lots more. You have to look at your local newspapers to figure out who you should approach and then figure out what offer to make. The end goal is to build a familiarity with local lists and how to access them. These skills are very interesting to business owners and should help you find employment or further you career. Just be careful to do no evil as you develop these skills.
